The Goodman Centre Opens
Our new day centre for those diagnosed with Alzhiemers or Dementia opened this month in Bearsted.
The centre is the first of it's kind in the area and promises a high level of specialised care for all the clients.
We were able to open the centre thanks to a Legacy left to the charity by Mrs Dorothy Goodman.
For more information on the centre, referrals and contact details please click in help and advice, and select The Goodman Centre title.
The Whitehouse Pub are at it again!
(that's fundraising)
Long-standing fundraisers for us The Whitehouse Pub in Hunton held another fantastic event in aid of our new dementia centre in Bearsted.
Here is the clubs chair report on the day:
Sunday 27th June
So hot and it was Soccer’s World Cup day as well with England ‘playing’! The midday BBQ added to what could be called a very hot ‘Sunday roast Day’!
But 24 players turned out for our second Annual Charity Fun Day Competition.
The games were ‘hotly’ contested in the morning session and a pleasant lunch under the trees gave a welcome cool break for all and a chance to down a few cold beers.
The afternoon session was curtailed and reduced to just one game so that some could return home to watch the box in time for England’s performance!!
The raffle was drawn and the prizes were presented by publican Jan, our Club President.
All ‘set-up costs, including the raffle prizes’ for the day were donated along with the playing fees, the proceeds amounted to just under £200.00 but with a few personal donations from some members it rose to £250.00.
Painting at Coxheath Centre
Clients at the Coxheath Monday club were given the opportunity to become artists for a few weeks in July.
The exhibition is part of a project organised by Richard Tanner who has arranged the art exhibition to be displayed at County Hall in the Autumn under the title ‘Bringing People Together’.
Volunteer artist Beryl Bush who came to help the clients commented, ‘I was asked to help out by Richard who works at County Hall, and I was more than happy to do so. We are producing the simplest abstract form of printing. The clients paint with as many colours as they want in any way they want. I then ask them what images they can see within the colours. I will then emboss the image or draw an outline straight on the paper for them.’

Fred Crawford from the Coxheath club explained that his collection of bright colours will be turned into 3 cockatoos. |

Kent Police present us with a cheque
Representatives from Kent police popped into the office on the 24th of June to present us with a cheque for £400.
The money will be put towards the running of our new dementia centre. Amanda and Matt who handed the cheque over to our chief executive were thrilled to help with out with such a worthy cause.
The money was raised from sales of the lost and found property held by a police auction.
ACM 200 Club
Since 2003 Age Concern Maidstone has been running the ACM 200 club to help raise funds for the charity and every April membership to the club is renewed.
When you join the club you have a chance of winning £35, £25 or £15 every month. The membership costs £12 for one share, but you can purchase any number of shares.
The money raised goes towards running our services.
